Where to find that something special: Secret Shops

Secret shops are my secret weapon. Without them I would likely never have a gift or that something fabulous. A wedding. A reunion. A Black tie event. Sometimes, you have that special occasion such and you just want something extra special or unique. You go to the mall and everything looks the same and who wants to wear what everyone else is wearing?  So today I thought I’d share a few great and often unknown special online shops to find that special outfit:

Secret Shops: My Top 3!

Moda Operandi:  The fashionista’s go-to website for everything but don’t you dare be intimidated by that! Founded in 2010 by the brilliant Lauren Santa Doming and Aslaug Magnusdottir, Moda Operandi  is a online luxury fashion retailer that hosts trunk shows which allows you to preorder looks directly from designers, right after the runway show! What’s so great about this site is that provides you the shopper with access to designer pieces that might not ever show up in a traditional luxury retail store.

FarFetchOh, how I love this website! I love it because it supports independent boutiques from over 400 countries. Small business owners are always near and dear to my heart and boutique shopping often helps me find that one of a kind piece. Founded in 2008 by Portuguese entrepreneur José Neves, each boutique has a distinctive style featuring everything from luxe to contemporary and emerging hard to find labels.  But the thing I love most is that they carry quality vintage where you can score some great finds and great deals.

Net-a-Porter Good things come in black boxes wrapped in beautiful grosgrain ribbon–from net-a-porter. Every purchase looks like a gift and from the moment it arrives you feel special. Founded by the multi-talented Natalie Massenet in 2000, everyone told her she would fail. But guess what? She became profitable in 2004 and recently sold her company for over 50 million. Today brands clamor to be sell their wares on her site and for good reason. It’s well edited and always ahead of the curve. And the bonus? Free shipping.

We’ll be writing more about great places to shop online so please let us know of your great finds!  You might just be on the blog!

A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to do a private photo shoot in one of my very favorite stores with Carolyn Cantor, executive sales professional at Ralph Lauren at the Biltmore Fashion Park in Phoenix, Arizona. It was a dream come true!
